This is Richard Hayne, President and CEO of Urban Outfitters. He’s also a supporter of Rick Santorum and donated over $13,000 to him. He’s against gay marriage and abortion.
His company pulled a pro-gay shirt back in 08, they also blatantly ripped off an Etsy designers work, featured a t-shirt for women that said “eat less” and most recently had a card with a “tranny” slur on in.
Why do you shop at this store? I imagine because you weren’t aware of these facts. Now you are, so stop shopping there.Well that explains why I’ve never liked UO.

So I’m writing an essay on the lesbian tumblr community. Yes, I’m serious. If you’re a tumblring lesbian (so that’s about 99.9% of tumbler users), pretty please read my thesis and send me thoughts/suggestions OR any of your personal experiences that you’d be willing to let me use in the essay.
Your experiences could include: how you found this community, why you stayed, if you’ve made friends that have become ‘real life’ friends, what your life would be like if you were born before the internet, how tumblring affects your sexuality in ‘real life’, etc. Basically anything you want!
Here’s my thesis, for those of you who are interested:
Historically, western lesbians formed underground communities to combat marginalization, isolation, lack of information, and other threats to agency. The lives of today’s young lesbians are embedded within technology, resulting in some community formation transcending physical limitations and shifting to the internet. Research conducted with young lesbian users of MySpace, Facebook and forums has become dated due to the rapid evolution and online migration of the demographic. This essay will address that issue by examining young lesbians who are active on tumblr, a blogging website launched in 2007 which allows users to ‘reblog’ forms of media and publish personal ‘posts’. Drawing upon theory as well as actual blog entries, this research will deconstruct the exclusivity present among the community. While any person with an internet connection can access the posts, the community itself remains difficult to penetrate. This is due not only to lack of knowledge of its existence, but also to references and slang which renders ‘posts’ incomprehensible to outsiders. One must possess a working knowledge of common lesbian narratives and favored cultural objects (such as fashion and celebrity) to understand ‘posts’ and become accepted by fellow lesbian users. This reflects a unique environment where technoculture interacts with lesbian, youth and pop culture. I will argue that this new phenomenon has real-world implications for how technology fosters young lesbian agency, ultimately both shaping and reflecting modern lesbian culture.
Ok, I’ll just leave that there, then. I really hope someone actually responds…
